St. Joseph’s Hospice offers a variety of Community & Supportive Care services that compassionately support the emotional, spiritual and social well-being of individuals and families experiencing a terminal illness or death of a loved one.
Hospice’s Programs and Services…
- Respond to the individual needs of each person as they move through their unique palliative and grieving process.

- Offer a place of comfort where hope can be restored under the guidance of empathetic staff and trained volunteers.
- Are offered at no cost to the people we serve.
SUPPORT GROUPS — Support groups are formed around common experiences. They provide individuals with comfort through sharing experiences and discussing coping strategies. Programs include:
- Caregiver Conversations
- Exploring Grief
- H.E.A.L. (Helping Each Other Acknowledge, Accept and Learn from Loss)
- Learning to Thrive
- Mindfulness for the Bereaved
- Practicing Self-Compassion
- Understanding Your Grief
COUNSELLING — Person and family-centered counselling is provided by a Registered Psychotherapist, who is a specialist in supporting the bereaved, caregivers and those living with a terminal illness.
SPIRITUAL CARE — Spiritual support is available for people of any faith tradition, or no faith tradition. Finding hope and meaning throughout an end-of-life journey can bring peace. Spiritual companionship is offered by our Spiritual Care Practitioner and specially-trained volunteers.
WELLNESS PROGRAMS — Wellness programs provide opportunities to learn new life skills, while connecting with others. Programs include:
- Connecting Through Cooking
- Finances Made Simple
- Guided Meditation
- Step-by-Step Walking Group
- Learning to Thrive
COMPLEMENTARY THERAPIES — Complementary therapies help individuals increase comfort, relieve pain, and improve quality of life. Services include:
- Healing Touch
- Hair Care and Esthetics
VOLUNTEER VISITING — Living with a terminal illness can be an isolating experience and caring for someone can be challenging for a loved one. Our Volunteer Visiting Program provides companionship, comfort, and practical support for the person living with a terminal illness as well as respite care for their caregivers and family.
Trained, caring, and dedicated volunteers visit the person living with a terminal illness in their home or for outings in the community. Using a confidential and thorough intake process we ensure that you, or your loved one, is matched with a volunteer who can support your unique needs. Clients and their volunteers enjoy activities such as:
Companionship in the home:
- Watching movies
- Legacy work (photo albums, videos, etc.)
Outings in the community:
- Trips to appointments
- Activities (coffee, shopping, etc.)
SOCIALS — Community clients, caregivers, and family members are invited to St. Joseph’s Hospice for three festive meals throughout the year complete with three-course meal, congregation, and music.
RESOURCES AND EDUCATIONAL WORKSHOPS — Written resources are available, and educational sessions are hosted, on a variety of topics related to grief and end of life.
MEMORIAL SERVICES — To honour and celebrate the life of your loved one, St. Joseph’s Hospice hosts memorial services twice a year.
